I am writing regarding the case report by Weiss, "Treatment of Leg Edema and Wounds in a Patient With Severe Musculoskeletal Injuries" (October 1998).
It is a pleasure to see the issues of edema control in wound healing and musculoskeletal problems addressed in a peer-reviewed journal. It has long been a battle of mine (and other therapists, I'm sure) to convince physicians that this is an area that physical therapists can manage well.
On page 1108 of the article, the author states, "Certification in CDP [complete decongestive physiotherapy] indicates that the therapist has specialized training in the use of CDP." I agree that the therapist described had completed a course taught by Lerner Lymphedema Services. I have also completed this training. At the end of a 2-week training period, attendees receive a certificate stating that they have completed the training, which is good, comprehensive training....
